Lucky me & Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant review

How I love freebies and giveaways! I may not be as lucky as some who constantly win giveaways but I am happy at the few products I have received the past month or so! This post has been delayed mainly due to my dissatisfaction of the photos I have taken, but I'll get over it and will post it today.

Goodies!
While taking this picture I forgot to add something else I had- the Butter London nail lacquer! I will post about it in another post though.

From left to right:

  • Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant 13g- freebie with the November issue of Marie Claire
  • Parissa Chamomile Body Sugar Wax set- from beauty with the-beautifool ♥'s giveaway! Check out her awesome blog too!
  • Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream sample- sample from Rouge's website
  • Schick Hydro Silk Razor- from a Facebook giveaway
  • Schwarzkopf LiveColour Shake It Up Colour Foam in 668 Amber Ample Twist- won a giveaway from Priceline's Twitter
  • Mirenesse Cat Eyes Liner- from a Facebook giveaway
  • Butter London Nail Lacquer in Pink Ribbon (not in main picture)- freebie from October's issue of In Style

 Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant 13g

A white powder! ;)
When I saw this freebie with the November issue of Marie Claire, I HAD to get it. Marie Claire is my most absolute favourite magazine (great articles and it is nice and thick- no that's not what she said!) and lately I've been trying to find a good exfoliator. I had a look and it sells for around $83 for a 75g bottle! That is crazy expensive! Quick calculations (using a calculator of course) says this little 13g sample is worth about $14. Sweet. (Addition: since then Dermalogica have dropped their prices and you can get a 75g bottle for $62.10!)

I had a bit of a read about this exfoliant on the Dermalogica website and it is a rice-based exfoliating powder which activates upon contact with water. It claims to exfoliate, brighten and smooth the skin which is definitely something I am looking for! How do I even use this powder? Instructions say "Dispense about a half-teaspoon of Daily Microfoliant® into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing hands together. Apply to face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently for one minute, then rinse thoroughly".

After reading a few reviews online the general consensus was that it was an excellent exfoliator so I didn't hesistate to try it!. Wow. What an amazing product. I don't think I've been so pleased with a product before! It did create a nice creamy paste which I lathered on my face, it was so easy. I rinsed my face and wow, my face is super soft and smooth! Very pleased as I have never used an exfoliator that has worked so well! I applied my rosehip oil and I had never feel it glide so smoothly and absorb so well before. I would definitely want to repurchase but will want to find a good deal as $83 is not something you will call cheap! I was very impressed and am super glad I got this freebie with my favourite magazine.

Parissa Chamomile Body Sugar

Yay my first prize from a blog giveaway! Super happy. I have never heard of this brand before, but it is a Canadian brand. It is a natural hair removal treatment made from sugar infused with soothing chamomile (sounds yummy!). The Parissa Body Sugar claims to be gentle on skin yet tough on hair (it can also be used on the face) and is ideal for both beginners and pros.

Comes with 140ml sugar, 20 washable strips, 8 ml Azulene oil, 3 spatulas (only the small one is shown)
I've actually never waxed before! I have shaved, used hair removal creams and now I only use an epilator as it is quick and easy. I've always stayed away from waxes as they seem a little messy and time consuming although I will definitely try this Parissa Body Sugar set sometime! The little blue vial of Azulene oil looks so cute hehe.

Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream

This came in such a cute little jar! I don't mind Olay products but if I had the choice I wouldn't really use them, but there is no particular reason why- maybe it just doesn't appeal to me. This micro-sculpting cream claims to firm and lift the skin's appearance in areas most prone to sagging by intracellular hydration (hydrating the cells!) and smoothing the skin's surface. Sagging isn't really an issue for me at the moment so I might pass this onto my mum! Another huge claim it made is that it works even better than the world's most expensive creams, even one that is $350. I don't think I'll try to prove that anytime soon so let's just leave it at that!

 Schick Hydro Silk Razor

Looking forward to trying this shaver! I haven't used anything really fancy before (just your regular two blade Gilette or Schick razors) so I hope this will provide an easy smooth shave ;)

Schwarzkopf LiveColour Shake It Up Colour Foam in 668 Amber Ample Twist

Do you love the colour too?!
I was lucky enough to win this in a Priceline giveaway on its Twitter! When I first saw this hair colour in the pharmacy at work, I was quite intrigued as the packaging reminded me of a milkshake, so cute. This colour foam retails for $12.99 but the cheapest I have seen it is for $10. It was so hard to decide on a hair colour I wanted as the pictures on the Schwarzkopf website were so small! I was tossing up between Amber Ample Twist, Nougat Delight and Cranberry Kick shades. I thought that Amber Ample Twist (what a mouthful!) was in the middle of the two other shades so I chose that one and I am happy with that selection!

This hair colour claims to be a "permanent vibrant foam colour with a dazzling gloss effect and a juicy, fruity scent!" Yum! I could smell the fruity scent too which was pleasant. Looking forward to colouring my hair with this as I think a foam hair colour will be much easier to use than your regular creams. I hope there will be a good colour pay off although I am doubtful. Will definitely post a review up when I do dye my hair though :)

Mirenesse Cat Eyes Liner

The last of the freebies! This is the Mirenesse Cat Eyes Liner pencil! It retails for $29.95 which you can buy from its website. It is a highly pigmented crayon eyeliner (wind up, doesn't need sharpening woohoo!) which claims to glide on and stay put all day. I have only ever come across one eyeliner that doesn't smudge on me- eyeliners are notorious for giving me panda eyes and not staying put EVEN after I slather on the eye primer (I use a Revlon one in case you were wondering!). So I was happy to try this although I find black eyeliners a little too harsh for me as I would rather a dark brown colour.

Wind up is always handy!

How did it hold up? A little better than I expected although it still smudged a little after about 8 hours but that wasn't much of a surprise to me. In terms of "gliding" on, it was okay but nothing amazing. I used the smudger but it was just a smudger- it did blend out some wobbly lines though! Would I repurchase it? No. It is a nice eyeliner but nothing special.

This post turned out to be a bit long! I was going to halve it but I wasn't really sure how that would have worked so this has ended up as a big post!

Have you tried any of these products? What freebies have you gotten lately?

    1. Yes it took me forever to try the eyeliner as I have way too many as well! Yes I saw the Lancome Juicy Tube! Was thinking whether I should get it or not as I'm not really fond of lip glosses though :(

  7. This post is a great read! I love how you reviewed so many products so concisely. The Dermalogica microfoliant sounds like a great product!! I have heard lots of good things about Dermalogica but I have never tried anything from them.

The Clinique Chubby Sticks do become drying after a couple of hours of wear too. How I wish it could be more moisturizing than it actually is.

    1. Thank you! :) This microfoliant was the first thing I've ever tried from Dermaologica and I have been impressed! Not too fond of its price though :( Damn! So both the Revlon and Clinique are drying.. that leaves the Face of Australia lip crayons to shine in their glory (which I really need to try!)

  8. Agh, you're lucky to have won all these! They're all such interesting products, especially the foam hair dye. I've also never had success with Olay anti-aging products either :(
By the way, are you now interning? How is it? When I was an interning pharmacy student I've always wondered how the experience is in other countries!

    1. Hehe I was surprised when I had won two small giveaways :) No I'm not interning yet, I've only just finished my second year (out of 4) of my degree! I've always been sceptical about anti-ageing products because I don't really know how they work!

  9. I thought about getting that Dermalogica exfoliator, I even did one of those "quick calculations" myself to see how much the sample would be worth haha! Glad to hear that it works really well and it left your skin really smooth and receptive to moisturiser/serum afterwards. I didn't end up buying one for myself, but maybe next time (if there ever is a next time - which I doubt) :p

  15. I used to use olay products but I don't anymore, they've ended up being just too simple and plain for my skin.

I prefer creams packed with skin loving ingredients, oils and vitamins and only lacked that for me.
