Review: Butter London in Pink Ribbon Nail Lacquer

Gorgeous packaging. Cute name. Free from formaldehyde, toluene and DBP (Dibutyl phthalate for you chemistry nerds out there... okay... *sulks away*) which are chemicals that may cause cancer (called carcinogens). Enough of the chemistry talk, but what's there not to love about Butter London nail lacquers? I got this as a freebie from the October's issue of In Style magazine (I briefly mentioned this in the previous post) and was pretty excited to try it out!

Butter London Nail Lacquer in Pink Ribbon
I had trouble opening the lid, I twisted with all my might but it didn't work. But alas, I had a closer look at the lid and it says "Lift to open". Who would have thought a nail polish would have a pull up lid?

Oh dear, Mr Butter London is naked!
Little bird with a crown

On inspection the shade "Pink Ribbon" is a sheer peachy pink, quite a nice neutral colour for the nails. The formula was runny- I had to take the photo really quick before it dripped everywhere- and easy to apply. However, I was extremely disappointed with how the colour turned out. I knew it was going to be sheer, but not SO sheer that my nails appear not to be painted at all!

Do you see it? No? Neither do I! The only thing "Pink Ribbon" offers is a nice shine to the nails. Perhaps this is the only disappointing shade in the Butter London range as I have only heard of good things about these nail lacquers! The other shades they offer look quite gorgeous so I definitely won't give the Butter London a miss- I'll just blame it on Pink Ribbon.

Have you tried Butter London Nail Lacquers? Which shades do you have? What did you think of them?

  2. I got the same one, and agree, it is a little too pale and sheer, but I do love that it is free from formaldehyde, toluene and DBP! Wish all nailpolishe were like that!

  3. LMAO you're so cute - it's the same with Chanel nail polishes with the lid to pull off! Hahaha
Shame it's so sheer though :( Butter London polishes are generally amazing, I've got my eye on soooo many!

    1. Oh what's the point of two lids? LOL! Yes I better try our other shades but it is just so pricey :(

  4. I have the exact same one and I reviewed it a while back. I was so shocked to see how sheer it was, but after 3 coats, I managed to get the polish to show up pretty well! I guess this polish was ment to be layered like crazy! On the plus side, layering polish makes them last for a long time for me without chipping, which I don't mind! =D

    1. That's true! I was a bit too lazy to go crazy with the coats and too impatient to wait for it to dry! :P

  8. I got this was well from the magazine - I had to put on a bazillion coats for it to apply opaque (it's kind of a light peach colour, similar to Revlon Peach Nectar), but it didn't dry because of the sheer number of coats I did, and I woke up to bedsheet creases on my nails :p Needless to say, haven't revisited it since! It's a pity it's so sheer and you have to put so many coats on to get any colour :(

    1. Haha "bedsheet" creases! Yeah it's just so incredibly sheer and I don't think I will bother with it when I have lots of other good nail polishes waiting to be used :)

  12. Oh man, you're always scoring great freebies! I've yet to try a Butter London polish, and I had no clue it had that kind of mechanism to open it lol. Was it still transparent though, even after multiple coats?

    1. Neither! I thought it was a little strange having a lid then another twist lid with the brush :P it was quite transparent after a few coats and I wasn't patient enough to do any more than 2! Probably won't bother with this nail polish anymore :)
