Review: The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA

The Ordinary is a relatively new brand that has come to the skincare market from the mother company DECIEM, who brought us the innovative brands NIOD and Hylamide. But there are a few things that stand out with The Ordinary- not only does it provide products with "effective clinical technologies", free from certain nasty chemicals and not tested on animals, it comes at ridiculously affordable prices. You'll be able to find the price range of all The Ordinary skincare products between $8.80 and $24.90. If this is not enough incentive to allow you to empty your wallets I don't know what is! Its popularity has resulted in such a huge demand that products have become out of stock and require a waiting list.

One offering from The Ordinary is the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA Surface Hydrating Formula 30mL, which I managed to purchase for a mere $9.80. Just take a second to appreciate at how sleek and minimalistic the packaging is, and this is seen throughout the whole skincare range!

The Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA is a "surface hydration formula" which contain ingredients that allow the skin to be "protected and well hydrated". (Note the "HA" stands for hyaluronic acid). Some of these ingredients include "11 amino acids, fatty acids, triglycerides, urea, ceramides, phospholipids, glycerin, saccharides, sodium PCA and hyaluronic acid" which are found naturally in the skin. The Ordinary claims that the formula is non-greasy and provides effective surface hydration.

Initially I was unsure at what part of my skincare routine I should use the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA, however the directions state to "apply after serums for effective surface hydration" (all this fancy terminology got me confused!). I interpreted this as using it just like a regular moisturiser, after all my serums and oils. The  Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA comes housed in a tube, the most hygienic and travel-friendly option. What I liked was that the tube had a foil seal which required removal prior to the first use, which ensures the product you receive is brand new.

The moisturiser is a thick mousse-like texture that does not feel heavy or greasy, and is unscented, a plus for those who are sensitive to fragrances. When rubbed in, the white colour disappears and the moisturiser is absorbed instantly. Some reviews I have come across mention that the formula was difficult to rub in, but I did not find this to be the case at all- it may ever so slightly require 1 extra second of rubbing it in, but I would not classify it as "difficult". Immediately after application, there is a slight tacky feel to the skin which subsides not long after.

Half rubbed in
The Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA feels amazing on the skin! My dry skin is hydrated and left feeling very comfortable, especially in the current cold winter weather. The Ordinary state that continued use also results in long-lasting hydration, which I have found so far after a couple of weeks of use. The moisturiser manages to encompass highly moisturising ingredients into a non-greasy formula that is not heavy on the skin. I am very pleased with The Ordinary, and for only $9.80 it is definitely worth a try. I would say the Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA would suit those with dry to normal skin, however with its non-greasy formula I wouldn't see why it couldn't be used for those with slightly more oilier skin!

At such an affordable price, The Ordinary delivers a high performing moisturiser which I would repurchase without blinking an eye. If you are interested, you can purchase The Ordinary directly from their website, adorebeauty or Priceline (however note that Priceline only stocks a limited range of products).
