Review: Garnier BB Cream for sensitive skin

I don't know about you, but on those cold winter mornings when you wake up wishing that you can snuggle in bed just a little bit longer, you find yourself in a rush to get ready for the day. One of my saviours has been easy-to-slap-on BB cream which requires minimal effort. When Garnier first released their original BB Cream formula a couple of years ago, I was so excited to snatch it up and found that its thick formula was perfect for my dry, dehydrated skin, and was a nice shade match for me. Earlier this year, out came the Garnier BB Cream for sensitive skin and I happily picked it up, eager to see how it compared to the original formula.

The Garnier BB Cream for sensitive skin is described as a formula that soothes and reduces redness of the skin, along with the million other claims BB creams always have including correcting blemishes, evening and illuminating the skin while providing SPF protection. This sensitive skin formulation was fragrance-free which I thought was great for those who didn't like the scent of the original- although I personally loved the fresh pleasant fragrance it had! These BB creams are definitely more on the moisturising side and can leave a dewy or shiny finish that some people may not like, and I'll probably stay away if you have oily or combination skin. If you have dry to normal skin like me, then these will be great!

I had really liked the original BB Cream as it worked well with my skin despite being a little on the greasier side, which I didn't mind as I could always set my face with a pressed powder to mattify it- like the Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. I never realised that the original formula was made in Germany while the sensitive version was made in France! When I first used the Garnier BB Cream for sensitive skin, I actually found it a little difficult to blend into my skin and that it sometimes balled up on my face. It was so hard to work with depending on what skincare products I had put on my face earlier (usually rosehip oil, a moisturiser and sometimes a sunscreen) and the product would constantly rub off into little balls! I found that it made my face more pink than usual, opposing the fact that it was meant to "reduce redness".

After many uses I found the sensitive formulation to be quite temperamental- sometimes it would stay on, other times it would rub off and leave a mess. However eventually I found a way to minimise the balling up of the product- to use my Real Techniques Buffing Brush or by minimally blending in the BB Cream using my fingers. Because of this, I have to say I like the original formula for normal skin better, as it didn't have the problem of "balling up" on my face which made it just that much easier to use.

I absolutely love the simplicity and ease in using these BB creams with its natural-looking coverage, perfect for quick morning routines when I want to indulge in a sleep in! I find that its thicker formulation is great for keeping my dry skin moisturised , and any oiliness around my nose was fixed with a little powder and I was good to go. There is also an oily skin version for those with oilier skins which I believe will not have the dewy finish that these BB Cream formulations have.

Have you tried the Garnier BB Creams? What are your go-to products for lazy mornings?

  1. I have the original one and I'm dissapointed in it. The color is WAAAY too dark and orange for me..
But I guess if the color was lighter I would use it since I liked the coverage.

    1. I used to think it was orange but I must have gotten darker and the colour suits me now! The coverage is quit nice :)

  2. I experienced the same issue with the Sensitive version, the product balled up whenever I tried to blend it. I tried using a brush and it somewhat helped but I still prefer the Original version.

    1. The balling up is terrible! Glad to find that it didn't just happen to me. The brush really does help but it really is too much effort sometimes!

    1. A lot of people like the oily/combo version better as most people do have combination skin! I have dry skin though so I like the slightly more "greasier" option haha! We should have :P

    2. I have dry skin as well, but if your face is well moisturised then the oily/combo skin one should be fine. maybe try it out when theres a 50% off garnier promo on :)

  5. I'm currently using Garnier's BB cream too but the one for oily to combination skin and I was really surprised at how much I liked it! BB creams do let us sleep in a tad longer- which is awesome because every extra minute of sleep counts on these freezing mornings :p

  6. The original broke me out waayyy bad and I really didn't like it, I'm glad they made a sensitive skin.

  7. I haven't tried any Garnier BB creams, or any other drugstore BB cream for that matter. I'll have to give them a go some time just because they're a lot more affordable than the higher-end ones.

    1. They aren't like the Asian BB creams at all- they should rather be called tinted moisturisers! The formulation of this Garnier BB cream is quick thick, instead of being more runnier like the Asian ones :)

  8. I have tried the Garnier BB Cream for sensitive skin and I really liked the finish, but it broke me out like crazy T.T
I believe I had never experienced break out that bad before.
Glad it works well for you!! since it is a very nice alternative for a good BB Cream with affordable price without having to order it overseas like most of the asian brands..

    1. Aww what a shame that it made you break out :( I can understand how though- it does seem a little greasy and thick, but if you remove well at the end of the day it is fine :) It is really affordable and accessible!

  11. The coverage looks pretty good! I have tried one BB cream, the Physicians Formula Super BB All-in-1 Cream, however it oxidized a bit. Does this BB cream oxidize?

    1. I quite like the coverage for this BB cream as it is quite natural but easier covers up red areas :) The Garnier BB cream is more like a tinted moisturiser than the traditional BB creams so I wouldn't say it oxidises at all!

  12. Love their BB creams. I've only tried the original one. I have the one tailored for combination skin also in my drawer, waiting for me to try it out.
Great review! I love using products made for sensitive skin so I will check this out once I finish up on my creams.

  16. BB cream is also a go-to product for mornings !
I've tried the BB cream that isn't for sensitive skins. I really like it, especially the scent, but the shade is a little bit too dark for me.

  17. That's strange about the balling up! I guess it must be related to using excess product? I haven't tried the original formula of this or the version for sensitive skin, though I do use the Oily/Combo skin version relatively frequently. I think that's a great BB (Western) BB cream - great for days when you still want a bit of coverage and a luminous finish, but nothing too involved or a regular foundation. I normally apply my one with my fingers - never tried a brush with it, though one day I might give the Buffing Brush a go with it!

    1. I'm not sure, but it definitely flakes off my face and makes such a terrible mess! The original formula doesn't do it though, so I find it very strange. I normally apply these BB creams with my fingers too (so quick and easy) but I decided to try it with the buffing brush and it went on very nicely :)

    1. I don't think that the oil skin formula has the problem of balling up, just the sensitive version which is so strange!

  23. I tried the one for oily skin (recommendation from jodi on youtube) and I do really like it. The one for normal skin seems to be too sheer for my preference and it feels like a tinted moisturizer. Will give the sensitive skin one a try :)!!

  28. While laser therapy can have a dramatically positive effect on hyper pigmentation disorders, it’s not a cure. If your pigmentation problems are a result from sun exposure, for example, you have to protect your skin from UV rays in the future or the whole cycle will begin again. Always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF of at least 15, SPF 30 will offer even better protection. Also, limit sun exposure and wear sun-protective clothing, including a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses. Make sure your doctor have proper degree and know what is he dealing with you can cheek his laser hair removal courses certificate.
